On Friday, in order to gain Hispanic votes for the upcoming November election, President Obama announced that he would be relaxing deportation rules for young illegals brought here by their parents, allowing them to stay in the country and work – potentially causing 800,000 illegal immigrants in the next two years to stay in the country without deportation. This has sparked a heavy debate among Republicans in Congress and was embraced by Hispanics nationwide.
This new policy completely bypasses Congress and achieves some of the points of the DREAM Act. Obama repeatedly said “This is the right thing to do,” and got very testy when a reporter for a conservative website tried to ask a clarifying question. Obama said that this would start immediately and said that it would “lift the shadow of deportation from these young people.”
